Two buses from Chesterfield along with a number of Transpire members,
the 123 Group and others attended the annual Potteries (POPS) event at
the Wedgwood Visitor Centre near Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday 9th
May 2010. Transport was provided in the shape of Chesterfield 93, the
Leyland Panther and Blackpool 353 the Leyland Atlantean, driven
respectively by Lee and Shayne. A prompt start from the town hall at
9.00am saw us travel in convoy via the A61/A38/A515/A50 arriving just
on 11.00am. An event worth attending in pleasant and busy surroundings
and blessed with a fine-weather day. Plenty of stalls, the Visitor
Centre and of course quite a wide variety of buses and coaches to
view. And indeed to travel upon as there were a number of services
operated throughout the day to various locations along with a shuttle
service to/from Stoke Railway Station and a mystery tour. Likewise a
variety of vehicles were used on these services including the
Chesterfield Panther and the Blackpool Atlantean. Shayne also managed
to grab the opportunity to take the visiting Midland Red NBC liveried
Leyland National out for a spin. Not literally of course. Attached are
several images of local interest vehicles, to give a flavour of the
day including a number of comparison shots, such as two minibuses of
quite diverse age and livery changes to the Potteries fleet over the
years. There were a number of other vehicles from far and wide that
attended including such a long-wheel based Preston Bus Olympian, a
fine pair of West Country Bristol Ks, a host of bonneted charabancs,
at least two Dorsal-finned coaches and of course the obligatory
Routemaster. However, these last were not your bog-standard type, one
being the coach RMC class version, the other in the mid-90s Kentish
Bus livery. Being a Potteries based event there was a fine selection
of buses from the PMT company and surrounding area that ranged over
several decades from Leyland PD through the era of the RE and VR to
the Optare Delta.
