Leyland National, suspected ex Midland Red because of Birmingham registration
Peter Williamson comments (15 March 2010):
I think UOA 322L must be a re-registration, as no such vehicle appears in "Bus Lists on the Web". In 1972/3 Midland Red were still
registering in Smethwick (HA), and West Midlands PTE did not receive any Nationals until the following year (M).
Neville Whitmore comments (15 March 2010):
The Leyland National at the Midland Railway centre is Ex Eastern National (original registration to follow) The reason it has a Birmingham
registration is that whilst with Ludlows of Halesowen it carried a "cherished" number but before sale it was reregistered again but did not
revert to its original number.
John Hargreaves comments (15 March 2010):
Leyland National UOA 322L. This is a rereg! Midland Red were still using 'HA' registrations issued at Smethwick - HHA 101L etc - in 1973. Could
possibly be ex Birmingham Coach Co/Diamond Bus who had a large fleet of Nationals, some of which were reregistered on to Birmingham marks -
of which 'OA' is one. Someone needs to have a look at the Leyland makers plate to reveal its true identity!
Andrew Bagshaw comments (15 March 2010):
Regarding the Midland Railway Centre pics: the Leyland National UAO 322L was actually new as Eastern National 1702 registered WNO 551L
hence the green NBC livery to which it is in the process of being restored into. It was sold to West Midlands independent Ludlows of
Halesowen upon withdrawal by Eastern National. Ludlows reregistered the bus as NAT 555A and it received its current West Midlands UOA 322L
when it was sold to Andrew Cooper for preservation.

Andrew Bagshaw comments (15 March 2010):
UAO 322L (top) and the P Type Tiger are both members of The Derbyshire Vehicle Preservation
Alliance and not The Chesterfield Bus Preservation Group which is an entirely different group and is not related.
