TRANSPIRE SLIDESHOW 43:
Chesterfield Falcons
Photographs provided by Andrew Bagshaw.
Added 6 January 2010 (Extra phtograph 11 January 2010)
Andrew writes (6 January 2010): As a tribute to the entry into preservation of Chesterfield No.40 East Lancs bodied
Dennis Falcon TWJ 340Y I have attached a pictorial selection of views of both the East Lancs bodied batch 40 - 43 and the
Marshall bodied batch 44 - 47 and invite comments to the Transpire website regarding these buses throughout their history.
My question to begin with is does anyone know if any of the Marshall ones still survive?
Daniel Shaw writes (10 January 2010): I'd like to thank Andrew for his photographic tribute to the Falcons. Both
me and Steve found the photos very interesting. I really liked the picture of 41 striped at Hunts. We would also like to thank everyone for their
support and interest in 40. We are looking forward to bringing the bus to Chatsworth for you all to see and enjoy.
The answer to Andrew's question is that we believe one of the Marshall bodied Falcons survives down south as a play bus but we haven't been
able to find out which one or where it is.
Duncan Bingham (26 January 2010):
If one of the Chesterfield Falcons remains in existence, I would imagine the most likely candidate would be 45 (A45 YWJ), which was last recorded
by the PSV Circle with Plusadvice Limited (trading as B&B Event Hire) of Unit 16a, Lyon Road, Walton-on-Thames KT12 3PU. Its tax expired in
March 2004.
Unfortunately I suspect that B&B Event Hire no longer trades - their LGV operators licence has been surrendered and the Limited Company is
now dormant. Apparently the trade has been taken over by another firm John Anderson Hire Limited of Unit 5 Smallford Works, Smallford Lane, St
Albans, Herts AL4 0SA, who have another contact address at Unit 55 Hobbs Industrial Estate, Newchapel, Nr Lingfield, Surrey RH7 6HL which may
carry on the former B&B Event Hire trade.
Regardless, they hire out portaloos, so why they wanted a Falcon (along with a former Eastern Counties Bristol VR and a Southampton Regent V) I
know not!
