What is TRANSPIRE ?

TRANSPIRE was formed in 1976 by a small group of bus enthusiasts to provide a society for those interested in public transport in and around the Chesterfield area.

The society now has nearly 200 members, young and old, male and female, including some who live many miles away from Chesterfield.

Bus operators serving the Chesterfield and areas around it include international companies such as Stagecoach and First, other large companies such as the Wellglade group and local operators such as TM travel and Hulleys of Baslow.

Remember too the many coach and minibus operators in the area and the coaches of National Express.

As you can probably see from what you have just read there is plenty in Chesterfield for the bus enthusiast!

ALL ABOUT TRANSPIRE

Events & Rallies

Each year Transpire organises several trips and tours in its own right and also works closely with the Chesterfield 123 Preservation Group (WEBSITE). These are open to all members, their families and their friends. These can include trips to Bus and Vintage vehicle rallies/ events, family coach trips to the seaside, visits to depots (depot open days) and evening tours. A variety of preserved and vehicles in service are used.

Archives

Transpire maintains a wide variety of local bus memorabilia of companies such as Chesterfield Transport, East Midland, Whites of Calver and Aston Express (All now part of Stagecoach Yorkshire/East Midlands). It includes, maps, books, magazines and timetables. Also included are ticket machines, badges and destination blinds. Anyone who is willing to donate anything to the society library are welcomed with open arms. All items are available to all members. If you would like to borrow anything then you would have to contact the society librarian (Neville Whitmore).

Support

The Society is willing to help / advise any member with a preserved vehicle.

How the Society Works

Transpire is run by a committee, which is elected each year at the AGM in September.

The society's funds come from members' subscriptions, trips, from sales and from donations.

As we are all bus enthusists we try to operate with a minimum of rules, but in order to keep on good terms with local bus and coach operators these rules must be stressed:

  1. Membership of the society DOES NOT entitle anyone to enter on to the property of any bus or coach operator without the express permission of that operator. Any member breaking thie rule could be liable to expulsion from the society.
  2. The society is NON-POLITICAL and does not become involved in controversial issues or attempt to influence the policies or activities of any operator.

Annual Membership Fees

  • £ 12.00 Adults
  • £ 10.00 Senior Citizens/Scholars/Unemployed
