OWNING CHESTERFIELD CORPORATION TRANSPORT 48

JRA 635
JRA 635 enters the Piece Hall in Halifax at the 1997 Nocturnal Heart of the Pennines Rally

For several years TRANSPIRE member David Gambles was the proud owner of ex Chesterfield Corporation Transport 48, a 1947 Crossley bodied Leyland Tiger PS1. In this section, bit by bit, he will unfold the tale of restoring and running this splendid vehicle.

PART ONE     ARTICLE      PHOTOGRAPHS

SECTION A: Acquisition from the "syndicate" followed by the early stages of owning the bus in 1997.

SECTION B: The restoration project over the winter of 1997/8 and its launch at the 1998 Tyne Tees Run.

The above two sections are covered in an article David wrote for Preserved Bus Magazine (now Bus & Coach Preservation Magazine), published in the September/October 1998 edition. We are grateful to editor Phillip Lamb for allowing us to reproduce this.

Because the article is photocopied from the Magazine, the legibility does not reach the high standards we strive for on this website, but in this case we felt you would wish to read it.
