Unless otherwise stated, bookings are not usually required for events but, to ensure there are no last minute problems, it
is advisable to ring Dennis Vickers on 07727 067278 a couple of days before.
Evening Meeting
Tuesday 27th March 2012
Roy Wilson is a life-long resident of Woodseats in Sheffield and followed his elder brother, Eric, in to the early days of the
Sheffield Omnibus Enthusiasts Society, when cream and blue buses were still plying the streets of that City. Eric still edits the S.O.E.S. magazine,
which has appeared monthly for the past 47 years, while Roy has closely followed the developments in Sheffield with his camera. Preserved buses
from the Sheffield area are now housed in two museums, at Adwarke and Tinsley, and Roy has been associated with a number of these projects,
plus his speciality in filming vehicles that have been involved in accidents.
Roy is also involved in the rally scene, orgsanising the free bus services at the Meadowhall event, and he has been a big help at our own
Chatsworth/Rowsley rallies with inspector duties. We are assured of an interesting and lively evening and invite you to enjoy this with us.
Venue: Rose Hill United Reformed Church, Soresby Street, Chesterfield S40 1JW. (M on map
HERE).
Meetings take place in No 2 classroom. Use the back entrance (by large council car park) and go up the second set of stairs you come to. Note
parking is free on the street opposite the Town Hall - a two minute walk.

Charge: There is no charge but donations of at least £1.50 are invited towards the hire of the room. This includes light refreshments.
Admission: Members and those considering membership are welcome to attend. No booking - just come along.

Kirkby Stephen – 14th Classic Commercial Vehicle Rally
Easter Sunday 8th April 2012
The small remote Cumbrian towns of Kirkby Stephen and Brough normally experience very sparse bus services with most routes running just a
couple of journeys on Market Days. Is it therefore any wonder that the locals wish to make the most of the Easter Weekend when the two communities
are joined by buses of all ages and sizes running every few minutes? This must be one of the few events where the crowds attracted by the Transport
Festival encourage local residents to set up their own stalls along the road side, bringing added pleasure for all.
This event is organised by Cumbria Classic Coaches whose own heritage fleet is always in action throughout the weekend, and many visiting
vehicles are encouraged to join in on the single, but most attractive, free bus route of around 6 miles in length. Beginning at Brough, where
local Chesterfield enthusiast Tony Wilson is normally the ‘Fat Controller’ the route follows the Eden Valley into busy Kirkby Stephen where
buses can be filmed trying to push their way through the narrow High Street thronged with sightseers and side attractions. After passing the
premises of a former railway, now under restoration, the route now climbs onto the high moors to terminate at the Railway Station for the
famous Settle to Carlisle line, giving excellent opportunities for scenic panoramic photographs.
We know you will enjoy this popular first event of the rally season, and hope that you can join us. A comfortable vehicle is preferable for
the distance involved, and thus our anticipated transport will be ex. Strathtay Tiger 438 (D278 FAS).
Depart: Chesterfield Town Hall, Rose Hill at 0730 hours
Fare: There is no charge to travel on a preserved vehicle. However if, for any reason, it is necessary to hire a bus for the journey, the
cost is likely to be £20 per person.
Return: To Chesterfield for approx. 2030 hours
Booking: Not necessary, but see note at top of page.

Further Coming Events
The programme for the remainder of the rally season is to be discussed at a Transpire Committee meeting in February, and full details will
appear in the March issue. Unfortunately a few of the rallies we regularly attend have moved from their normal dates, causing a few ‘clashes’
and thus we must make a few difficult choices as to which to attend, but there will still be much of interest to see and do on most Sundays
during the Spring and Summer.
Shayne Howarth is also arranging an interesting programme of five evening tours between April and August and, again, further details will
appear in the next issue of our News Sheet.
